Marking Three Years of Full-Scale War in Ukraine

On February 24, 2025, Ukraine and the world will commemorate the third anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion. Nearly 1,100 days of war have left behind an immense human toll and destruction.

Here are some facts about this war.

  • 12,654 civilians killed – a 30% increase in 2024 compared to 2023, including 673 children 
  • 29,392 civilians wounded, among them 1,865 children 
  • More than 46,000 Ukrainian soldiers killed 
  • Tens of thousands are prisoners of war (POW) or missing 
  • Over 380,000 Ukrainian defenders wounded, with 82% returning to service after recovery

Women on the Frontlines.

  • 5,000 women are serving directly on the front lines, among 42,000 women in the Armed Forces of Ukraine

Targeting Civilian Infrastructure.

  • 790 Russian attacks have destroyed or damaged hospitals and medical facilities 
  • 1,670 Russian attacks have destroyed or damaged schools and colleges 
  • 19,500 Ukrainian children have been forcibly deported to Russia

The Cost of Defense.

  •  $320 billion spent on armaments over three years:
  • $120 billion from Ukraine’s domestic budget
  • $200 billion in aid from the U.S. and the EU

Ukrainian Defense Successes.

  • For the first time, Ukrainian forces shot down a Russian Kinzhal hypersonic missile using the U.S. Patriot air defense system—a milestone in modern warfare.
